Wearing underwear that fits properly is extremely important, as it helps you to feel good about your appearance. And often underwear makes or breaks an outfit.
When I wear a good fitting bra, my bust is securely held in place and it gives me a flattering body shape, which gives me confidence.
Did you know that your breasts can change size through weight loss or gain, increase or decrease in exercise, pregnancy, the use of birth control pills and hormone replacement therapy, and breast surgery?
Bra shopping can be an extremely frustrating experience. However, you can make it painless if you shop at a store that has a shop assistant who can fit you properly.
These days there are many different sizes and styles of bras, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to try as many on as possible to see which ones best fit your shape. Ask yourself three questions: “What do I need the bra for?”, “What am I wearing it with?”, and “What colour do I need or want”. The answers to these questions will help you to narrow down your choices without it being too overwhelming.
One tip I have learned is to select or shop for underwear before I go out and invest in a new top or dress. This way I can wear the bra when I go shopping, so I can see how the bra and top or dress work together. For example if you bought a strapless top or dress then you would need a strapless bra that fits that style.
Once you have found a bra that fits well, I encourage you to wear a t-shirt or top over it and then bend over, and jump up and down to see how the bra moves. You can also see what shape it gives you. There’s nothing worse than wearing a bra you think is a good fit and then, when you start moving, you discover the bra is not holding your bust in securely. The goal is to find a bra that is a good fit, gives you good shape, and is comfortable.
A couple of other tips. If you are self conscious about your bust size, big or small, just cut out the label and forget the size. If you’re a lady with a big bust wearing a bra that fits properly, this will make you look smaller in your clothes, whereas a badly fitting bra will make you look bigger. And lastly, don’t wear black underwear underneath white tops or dresses because it just looks tacky.
The same rules apply with your underpants. Make sure you buy the right size and shape. There’s nothing worse than pulling them out of your bottom every time you move. These days there are many options of underpants and shapewear that cater for different styles of clothing, so take the time to find the style you need and like, and make sure you try them on before you head to the counter. Again, don’t be afraid to buy the size that fits you best, just cut out the label and embrace the fit, not the size.
One thing that I find interesting is that many women don’t wear matching underwear. Since my late teens I have always worn matching underwear. I’m not sure why this is but I do know that it makes me feel more confident and sexy if I wear a matching set, even on my ‘fat days’. If you don’t wear matching underwear I challenge you to give it a go. Then, afterwards, I want you to ask yourself “Did it make me feel any different?” I would love to hear your feedback.
At the end of the day we all want to feel fabulous and confident, and wearing good, well fitted, matching underwear will help you on your journey to achieve this.
